Hacking.. As if... o.O
Hacking? I dont think they hacked to get mini rollerbeetles. Rollerbeetle racing is a matter of skill, luck and technique. How could they hack it anyway, really?
Now I'm no good at rollerbeetle racing, nowhere near a high score or top 100. But it's a fun game. And I say congrats to the people who earned the rollerbeetles by skill practice and look. I think people on this thread who are flaming and whining and whatever saying "0MG H4X0R G0T B33TL3S!" (Lol ) Are just jealous they didnt get one.
P.S: Anet should really fix the high scores so that someone cant get on the highscores more than once. o.O

Roller beetle racing isn't about "hacking", it's about tricks and timing.
The question i see people asking is, is that enough reason for such a high and limited reward? The answer is usually no, but given the manner the latest "rare" mini(aka mini polar bear) was implemented, questioning Anet's view on the "special" economy of Guild Wars is a waste of time.

Grats to all the top 100!
I had the pleasure of playing against Roflcopter Ownage in one race, and I learned quite a lot about good racing from that! Ah, to have had the full weekend!
To say that any of these people hack is stupid. They know ALL the tricks of the trade, and my hat off to them for it. Cant wait till the beetles are available again!

I did a fair bit of racing (for once) during this event and I had a pretty good time with it. My highest score was something around a 467,000, and to be perfectly honest I can see, based off that score and how I did during that race, how someone could get 480,000 or close to it.
I probably ran a couple hundred races during this event; of which I would say probably 25-35 of the races provided the powerups needed to provide such a kickass score. Of these 25-35 races, a number of other conditions would also need to be fulfilled in order to finish with a score higher than 465,000: you can't get KD'd more than a couple times and if you use your skills in the wrong place (or fall prey to the Rollerbeetle Dash bug) you're boned.
That said, the lingering smell of rat continues to plague my already unfortunate olfactory organ. I ran a race at some point during the event where our leader (who had ran a 470something the previous race) stopped and started dancing for a full twenty seconds. At the 5th Checkpoint. Guess who won anyway?
I don't pretend to know anything about "hacking" or third party programs, but I do know that this incident was highly unusual since he obviously knew (somehow) that he was going to win anyway. I know what has to happen for someone to run a race like that (I was fortunate enough to come close myself), but what puzzles me is the frequency with which these circumstances fulfill themselves for certain players. It's possible that they just run way more races than the rest of us, I suppose.
But I think the real problem is dumbass targeting. Towards the end (it got really bad by sunday night), whoever had the lead after the third checkpoint would almost always maintain it unmolested for the rest of the race. It was almost as if players were only racing for first place in the opening 45 seconds of the race. I got hit with more Rollerbeetle Blasts and Spit Rocks in 3rd, 4th and 5th (!) places than I ever had to deal with in the lead. I don't think most racers realize that the range on Rollerbeetle Blast is not limited to aggro-bubble range.

Woah, haven't seen so jealous peoples...do you really think that there is some
[SIZE=-1]Über-hyper-super cheat/hax that increses score? Stop crying, if there would be somekind of bug/hax/cheat ANet would notice it. You can get to top-100 easily, if you have luck ( Rollerbeetle Echo> Super Rollerbeetle> Echoed one,
and this from start to end )
Gratz to all who won the prize. Really disapointed that these who won at last year, couldn't get another, they deserve it.

All I have to say is:
Why are people acting so jealous? Am I the only person who really doesn't care if someone got a Mini or not?
I still find it hard to believe that people forget that Guild Wars is a game to have fun AND ONLY FUN. If you complain and consider something unfair, get ten thousand other people to agree with it. Until then, most people pretty much wont care.
For the record, I've never had an Ectoplasm, let alone a Mini Beetle.

Placebo was the one that taught me the tricks, ruthless amazon also helped a little bit. There is no hacking involved and if you know what you're doing you can dance at checkpoint 5, even let people lead in front of you, and still win the race without a super. So many people mess up the spiral and the beach it's unbelievable. They just love going for the powerups... which ruins all your speed.

The spiral after checkpoint 5 is one of my strongest areas (same with the one immediately after the second). It's one of those key places where having a good machine probably helps--I couldn't imagine trying to deal with it on my old box. I may have gone for the powerup all the way on the right by the 6th Checkpoint, but I know what I'm doing when it comes to pathing.

This was the first festival I really participated in. Prior to this I had a woefully inadequate machine (that I for some reason subjected my friends to the horror of HAing with), and even after I built my new one I had been playing other games for some time at first.
If there's a better way to do it and he used it to beat me fine--but you can't seriously be indignant with me or anyone else for scratching our heads after the guy actually stops for some time and still wins. Even if I knew the strategy and how to execute it perfectly every time, I would never assume that the other racers were unaware of it, no matter how many races may have proven me wrong. If you're playing to win (and hey, maybe this guy didn't care) there are certain things that you just don't do. Stopping in the middle of a race seems like one of them.

Check your PM Nadia. I would post it here, but it was one of my strategies I didn't want everyone else to know. It's not the method you'd use for a top score, but in that specific area it would be very fast.
Just make sure you never hit any of the water.

First up, the guy was obviously being a bit of a jerk.
However, in response to taking other people lightly: if you know what your doing, you can tell if anyone else is going to be a challenge after the cave. Anyone not still with you after that is either a regular player (99%), or someone who missed their drops (and so they're probably going to give up).
The only realistic threat was that everyone gangs up to chain-kd him, with an optional someone gets (or has) a SRB. Honestly, if he was really being that stupid about it, I'm surprised that the first part didn't happen.

Then you've successfully reverse engineered the method Yuri uses. This is harder than it sounds, as you have to space speed buffs properly, and the spacing is pretty non-intuitive.
As for people screwing over your run - Yuri always had a problem with this. The best solutions are pacifism followed by doing unto others late. Use your shield responsibly, memorize where people can pick up KD powerups, and use your Lunge on the last guy that is in range when you're on the beach.

Congrats to the winners and shame on those who QQ simply because they are not good enough. I suck at rollerbeetle, but I know like most things in this game, if you focus your attention you can get very good at almost anything. Why bitch and moan because a few guys and gals put in the effort necessary, and shared the skills they learnt with a few friends.
I know none of then, but kudos to them.

Dual Ram ftw? Or mayby how certain people payed/asked people to leave/help them?
I got 474 the fair way, and I ONLY figured out the dual ram glitch in the last 3 hours...
Pretty sad to see a Lightening Beetle get away from me in that way...
Sure, Ekelon, Ruthless, Yuris are good players, however, do NOT tell me they didn't have unfair advantage, they knowingly abused this glitch... (So did I, but seeing how I, in only 3 hours, got such a high score, well bs...)
ON TOP OF THAT, if it was 1 account = 1 placein top 100, I probably would have maid it anyways...
Meh, Gratz anyways, Better luck next year for me ^^ (GW will be totally dead anyways)
